Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo became the first player to reach the quarterfinals of the 10th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro.
Cerundolo defeated veteran Spaniard Alberto Ramos-Vinolas in two sets: 6/2 and 6/1 in one hour and 21 minutes.
“I'm very happy with this win, I really needed that to get some of my confidence back. I’m glad that I was finally able to take to the court what I’ve been practicing”Said Cerundolo who was 0-5 in second round matches this season.
With the win the Argentinian reached his 16th ATP Tour quarterfinal, the first since Bastad last July and the sixth in South America (2021-23 in Buenos Aires, 2022-23 in Cordoba, 2022-24 in Rio).
Cerundolo now takes on a Serbian player next: either Laslo Djere or Dusan Lajovic who are playing later this Wednesday at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
