Top seed Carlos Alcaraz could be in for a late night in Rio de Janeiro Tuesday after rain delayed the start of play by almost three hours.

The Rio Open presented by Claro Tuesday schedule was due to start at 4:30 p.m. local time but it was not until 7:30 p.m. that the first ball was struck in Court Guga Kuerten's opening match between last week's Buenos Aires champion Facundo Diaz Acosta and Swiss three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka, with rain still falling but light enough to allow play.

Alcaraz is second match on Court Guga Kuerten against Brazilian wild card Thiago Monteiro., who won the pair's only prior Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting at the Melbourne-1 ATP 250 in 2021.

Last matches on all courts have been postponed for the day, including the clash between #NextGen ATP finalist Arthur Fils, No. 36 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings, and 17-year-old Brazilian wild card Joao Fonseca.
