On Tuesday, the Rio Open presented by Claro announced another addition to the 2025 lineup. One of the biggest young forces in the current tour, Danish Holger Rune, currently ranked number 15 in the world, is confirmed for the 11th edition of the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, which will take place from February 15 to 23 and also includes Alexander Zverev in the lineup.

Rune is part of the new generation of tennis and has been making his mark. The Dane was ranked number 1 in the world in juniors and was elected by his ATP peers as the revelation of the 2022 season, receiving the award in the year he made a great run to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.

At just 21 years old, the tennis player, who describes himself as a clay court lover, has had a rapid ascent in the rankings during his four years as a professional, reaching the position of the 4th best tennis player in the world after a great 2023 season, where he made it to the finals of the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters 1000, won the ATP 250 in Munich, and made it to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

"I have very high expectations for the Rio Open, I have heard many good things about the tournament and the city: the views with the sea in the background, the courts, the hot and humid weather, and the electrifying night sessions... I am super excited to play in front of the Brazilian public and hope to present my best tennis," said Rune, excited about the opportunity.

Following the tradition of the Rio Open of always bringing new additions to the lineup, this will be the first time the Dane competes in the ATP 500 in Rio, joining Zverev, world number 4, among those confirmed for the Rio Open 2025.

"We are happy to be able to bring this new addition for 2025. Holger is one of the best tennis players of the Alcaraz/Sinner generation and I believe we will see him playing Grand Slam finals soon. He has a playing style that fits well on clay and a strong personality on the court. The 2025 edition has everything to be another great tennis celebration in Brazil," said Luiz Carvalho, Director of the Rio Open.

Rune and Zverev now join the illustrious gallery of great international tennis names in the history of the Rio Open, such as Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Casper Ruud, Arthur Fils, Cameron Norrie, John Isner, Marin Cilic, Fabio Fognini, Gael Monfils, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Berrettini, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and others.
