The Rio Open presented by Claro will have a tenth champion in ten editions of the tournament at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Defending champion Cameron Norrie lost his semifinal match to Argentinian Mariano Navone and put an end on his hopes of becoming the fist two-time winner in Rio.
Norrie wasn’t feeling well during the match. He was struggling with his breathing and received visits from the physiotherapist and tournament doctor.
"For me it was a tough match, tough conditions and for me it was normal to feel the way I was feeling. I fought to the end but I didn’t have the quality. My body was not 100% but I tried to fight and Mariano played too solid for me today”, said Norrie, who was looking for his first final since the one in Rio last year.
"It was a tough way to finish this tournament. Obviously I was trying to defend the tittle and it was tough I couldn’t play at my best today.”
