After losing his first ever ATP Tour semifinal to fellow Argentine and Rio Open defending champion Sebastian Baez, Camilo Ugo Carabelli was all smiles at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
“It was the best week of my career so far”, said the 25-year-old after his 3/6, 6/1 and 6/1 defeat. “I even had my family from Florianopolis here. I’m just sorry I coudn’t win. I could never imagine that I would be doing an ATP 500 semifinal and I think mentally I was not on my best. It was a long week”, added Carabelli, who lost in the Qualifying and then got to the main draw as a lucky loser.
“I didn’t sleep too well the last couple of nights, I’ve been waking up late and then taking a nap before the matches. The mental toll was maybe a bit too much, I think I was not ready for all that, but maybe with time it will get better”, said the Argentine, who became the second lucky loses to reach the semifinals in Rio after Attila Balázs lost to Gianluca Mager in 2020.
With the result in Rio Carabelli will reach the 69th place on the ranking.
