The four remaining spots to the main draw of the Rio Open presented by Claro will be decided this Sunday when the second round of Qualifying resumes at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Former Rio Open champion, Cristian Garin was defeated this Saturday by fellow Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera (6/4 and 6/3). Vera now faces Camilo Ugo Carabelli, from Argentina, hoping for a third consecutive appearance at the Rio Open.
Carabelli advanced to the second round of Qualifying after defeating Brazilian Karue Sell in three sets (6/4, 4/6 and 6/4).
Another clash this Sunday will see Portuguese Jaime Faria take on Juan Manuel Cerundolo, from Argentina. Faria defeated Brazilian Mateus Alves by 7/5 and 7/6 (4). Cerundolo advanced after beating countryman Thiago Augusto Tirante in two sets (6/1 and 6/4).
Also playing for a spot at the main draw this Sunday are Argentinian Roman Burruchaga against Hugo Dellien and Marco Trungelliti versus Chun-Hsin Tseng (TPE).
Burruchaga defeated Federico Coria in three sets (2/6, 6/1 and 6/4) this Saturday, Bolivian Dellien beat Juan Pablo Ficovich (6/4 and 6/0) while Trungelliti overame German Yannick Hanfmann (6/4 and 6/3) and Tseng overcame João Lucas Reis da Silva (BRA) by 6/7, 6/3 and 6/4.
DOUBLES
In the Qualifying to the Doubles Draw, the remaining spot at the Rio Open will be decided in the match between Francisco Cabral (POR)/Jean-Julien Rojer (NED) and Gustavo Heide (BRA)/Marcelo Zormann (BRA).
