Alexandre Muller, 28, took the remaining spot at the quarterfinals of this year’s edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro.

In a two-hour-and-eight-minute you match this Thursday, he defeated Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry by 7/5 and 7/6 (5).

He now takes on another Argentinian, Francisco Cerundolo, at the second match of the night session at Court Guga Kuerten this Friday.

“He's a very physical player, won a tournament this year already and gets here very confident even though he didn’t win matches in Buenos Aires last week”, said Cerundolo, who’s a runner up at last weeks ATP event. “He's a dangerous and very talented player.”

Muller started his campaign at the Rio Open with a win over Brazilian rising star João Fonseca on Tuesday. He now reached his fifth ATP Tour quarterfinal, the second on clay courts after making it to the 2023 Marrakech final.

It was also the first time since reaching the fourth round at Masters 1000 Rome in May that he won consecutive matches on clay.
