The ATP released the complete list of players who will compete in the 10th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro. Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 2, Cameron Norrie, the defending champion of the tournament, Marin Cilic, Arthur Fils, and Stanislas Wawrinka are the main stars of the Brazilian ATP 500, which will take place from February 17th to 25th at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro.

Leading the list, Alcaraz will participate in his fourth Rio Open. The Spanish player made his debut in 2020 when he was ranked 406th and was considered one of the future prospects of tennis. Carlos received a wildcard, where he played his first ATP main draw and also secured his first victory in ATP tournaments. In 2022, Alcaraz returned to Rio as the 29th-ranked player and won the biggest title of his career at that time, becoming the youngest player to win an ATP 500. The following year, in 2023, the Spaniard had another strong campaign in the tournament, leaving the Jockey Club Brasileiro as the runner-up. Alcaraz is a two-time Grand Slam champion (US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023) at just 20 years old.

Also returning to the Rio Open is the British player Cameron Norrie, defending champion of the tournament. Ranked 22nd in the world, Norrie has won five ATP-level titles and left his mark on the Rio Open not only by winning the title but also by expressing his desire to connect with the city of Rio de Janeiro, being moved by his visit to Rocinha in the last edition. Norrie will seek to defend his title in the tournament, something that has never been done in the history of the Rio Open.

Another name returning to the biggest tennis tournament in South America is the Croatian Marin Cilic. Known for his powerful shots and one of the best serves on the tour, Cilic is a winner of 20 ATP titles, including the 2014 US Open. The Croatian is participating in the Rio Open for the second time in his career, with the first being in the 2018 edition, leaving a lasting impression on the Brazilian audience with his charisma wherever he went.

Stanislas Wawrinka and Arthur Fils will make their Rio Open debut this year. Wawrinka is one of the most successful Grand Slam winners of the tour, having won three major titles. The Swiss player, known as Stan, won the Australian Open 2014 against Rafael Nadal, and Roland Garros (2015), and the US Open (2016) beating Novak Djokovic in the final. He achieved five victories against world No. 1 players in Grand Slams. His trophy cabinet includes 16 singles titles and three in doubles, including the Olympic gold medal in Beijing 2008 alongside Roger Federer. Highly requested by the Brazilian fans, known for his highly praised technique on the court and being one of the greatest clay-court players, Stan promises to make a memorable appearance in Rio de Janeiro.

Arthur Fils is one of the rising stars of the new generation, already occupying the 34th position in the rankings at just 19 years old. The tennis player started the year 2023 at the 252nd position and climbed with impressive campaigns, including winning the Oeiras challenger and his first ATP title in Lyon. His last season earned him a spot in the Next Gen ATP Finals, a tournament that brings together the biggest prospects of the year, where he reached the final.

The tenth edition of the Rio Open also has two Brazilians directly in the main draw. Thiago Wild, ranked 77th, has entered the main draw directly, while Gustavo Heide, the Maria Esther Bueno Cup champion, holds one of the three wildcard entries in the draw. Two more wildcards will be distributed by the tournament in the future.

"We are very happy with this list for the 10 years of the Rio Open. It is very special to have Alcaraz with us for the fourth year, the big name on the tour currently, and everyone wants to see him. We will also have Norrie, our current champion, possibly having a rematch of the 2023 final, and another big name returning, Cilic. It's a draw with many new names, like Wawrinka and Fils. For Brazil, Thiago Wild, who won the first edition of the MEB CUP, has entered this year on his own merit. A mix of playing styles and personalities for all fans that promises to bring a lot of excitement for the 10th edition," said Luiz Carvalho, Rio Open director.

The Rio Open 2024 men's singles draw will feature 32 slots, with 23 direct entries based on players' rankings. Three wildcards from the organizers and one reserved for requests from players on the ATP A+ list are also part of the count. Another four players will come from the qualifying, which will be held on February 17th and 18th at the Jockey Club Brasileiro with free entry (more information coming soon). Finally, one slot belongs to the special exempt, reserved for players unable to participate in the qualifying due to playing in another tournament. If not used, the special exempt and ATP A+ list invitation slots will convert into direct entry slots.
