The long-awaited tenth edition of the Rio Open has an unprecedented name already confirmed in the tournament. Stanislas Wawrinka, three times Grand Slam champion and former number 3 in the world, will come to Brazil for the first time in his career to fight for the title of the biggest tennis tournament in South America, which will be played at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro, between the 17th and 25th of February.

Wawrinka is one of the biggest Grand Slam winners of the current generation, having won three Grand Slam titles. Champion at the Australian Open 2014 against Rafael Nadal and at Roland Garros (2015) and at the US Open (2016) against Novak Djokovic, the Swiss has five wins against world number 1 tennis players in Grand Slams. His trophy cabinet has 16 titles in singles and three in doubles, including the Olympic gold medal in Beijing 2008 alongside Roger Federer.

One of the great favorites of tennis lovers in Brazil, owner of one of the most praised techniques on the circuit and one of the biggest names on clay, Stan, as he is known, is eager to meet his fans. "I'm very happy that I'm going to Brazil for the first time in my career. I hope to see all the Brazilian fans at the Rio Open in 2024 on my debut in the country," said the Swiss.

“Every year we seek to bring a mix of generations in addition to the main clay tennis players on the ATP circuit. Stan is the only player besides Nadal, Djokovic and Federer to win Roland Garros in the last 20 years, a feat that accredits him as one of the main clay tennis players of this generation. Stan is a great ambassador for the sport, highly respected on and off the court, as well as having an aggressive playing style that has everything to enchant the Brazilian public. We are excited about Stan at the 10th edition of the Rio Open,” said Luiz Carvalho, Director of the Rio Open.

In addition to Wawrinka, Carlos Alcaraz is also confirmed for the tenth edition of the Rio Open. Current number 2 in the world and champion of two Grand Slams, the great sensation of the circuit will also be brightening the courts of the Brazilian Jockey Club, with the tournament already having two great elite champions guaranteed in the dispute.
