Another big name joins the star-studded lineup of the 11th edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro. Italian Lorenzo Musetti, bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and world number 19, is confirmed for the ATP 500 in Rio and is the third top 20 player guaranteed for the tournament. Held from February 15 to 23, the Rio Open 2025 also features Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune in its grand lineup.
At just 22 years old, Musetti has become one of the main names on the ATP circuit with his eclectic playing style. A former world number 1 in juniors, the Italian quickly climbed the rankings, entering the top 200 in his second year as a professional. In 2022, Musetti won the titles at the ATP 250 in Naples and the ATP 500 in Hamburg, and the following year, he reached his career-high ranking of 15th.
Currently ranked 18th in the world, the tennis player is in great form. Musetti was a finalist at the ATP 250 in Umag and the ATP 500 in Queen's, as well as a semifinalist at Wimbledon. His most recent achievement, however, was at the Paris Olympics, where he won the bronze medal for Italy by defeating players like Gael Monfils, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, and Felix Auger-Aliassime along the way.
This will be Musetti's second appearance at the Rio Open, having also played in the 2023 edition. "I'm very excited to return to Rio de Janeiro. I played the Rio Open for the first time a few years ago and it was amazing, I got to know a bit of the city and finally visit Brazil. I'm very happy to be able to return and I hope to count on the support of the fans, whether on the court, at home, or on social media. See you in 2025," said the Italian, who left a special message for Brazilian fans.
"With Musetti confirmed, I believe we will have one of the strongest lineups in Rio Open history. He has already experienced playing in Rio once, and with his recent great results, he has everything to return as one of the favorites to win the title in February," said Luiz Carvalho, Director of the Rio Open.
Musetti joins the star-studded lineup of the Rio Open 2025, which also includes Holger Rune and Alexander Zverev among those confirmed.
