With local favorites Matos/Melo, doubles SFs kick off this Friday
After becoming the first Brazilian to win a trophy at the Rio Open presented by Claro last year, Rafael Matos eyes a second title in a row at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Playing alongside fellow countryman Marcelo Melo this year, they take on Luciano Darderi and Mariano Navone in one of the semifinals of the ATP 500 event. Their match will be the third of the day at Court 1.
“They are two solid players and like to play on clay. We’ll have to work on our tactics and it’s going to be a completely different match from our previous ones here”, said Matos.
The other semifinal will be decided between the Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez/Andres Molteni and Spaniards Pedro Martinez/Jaume Munar.
Matos and Melo advanced to the semis after defeating Francisco Cabral (POR) and Jean-Julien Rojer (NED) in two sets this Thursday: 6/4 and 6/3.
“We played really well today, much better than the previous match. We managed to play our game and to be in front of our home crowd is really special and gives us a lot of energy”, said Melo
