Rio de Janeiro is ready to stage the 11th edition of the biggest tennis tournament in South America, the Rio Open presented by Claro, taking place on February 15-23. A starred field will compete in the clay courts of Jockey Club Brasileiro, with breathtaking views of Christ the Redeemer.
The final entry list of athletes who will compete in the ATP 500 event will be revealed in January, but the presence of renowned players is already secured. Alexander Zverev, one of the most successful tennis players of his generation and currently ranked No. 2 in the world, will make his debut at the Rio Open. With 23 titles to his name, including a gold medal at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, two ATP Finals and seven Masters 1000 titles, his talent and consistency have made him a regular presence among the top players on the ATP tour.
Danish player Holger Rune, currently ranked No. 13 in the world and one of the leading names of the new generation, will also join the tournament for the first time. Rune won the Paris Masters 1000 in 2022, and of the four titles he has won, two were on clay — the same surface as the Rio Open.
Italian Lorenzo Musetti, bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics and currently ranked No. 15 in the ATP rankings, is the third top 20 player confirmed for the Rio Open. Known for his elegant playing style and one-handed backhand, Musetti is a former world No. 1 junior and has won important titles, including the ATP 250 in Naples and the ATP 500 in Hamburg. This will be the Italian’s second appearance at the Rio Open, having also competed in the 2023 edition.
The past singles champions of the Rio Open are Rafael Nadal (2014), David Ferrer (2015), Pablo Cuevas (2016), Dominic Thiem (2017), Diego Schwartzman (2018), Laslo Djere (2019), Cristian Garin (2020), Carlos Alcaraz (2022), Cameron Norrie (2023) and Sebastian Baez (2024).
Beyond Sports
While tennis is the main attraction, there are plenty of other entertainment options, with a structure comparable to that of major events on the ATP tour. The Rio Open features an area of approximately 10,000 m², the Leblon Boulevard, offering stands, stores, entertainment, and dining options, as well as sponsor activations for fans of all ages.
At the Rio Open Square, fans can watch the matches on a giant screen to catch every point. Following the trend of major tournaments, the Rio Open also has an official merchandise store — La Boutique — as well as a FILA store. The event will also feature an Art Space and musical performances during match breaks.
