After spoiling the homecoming of Brazilian rising star João Fonseca at the opening round of the Rio Open presented by Claro, Alexandre Muller is bak at the main court of Jockey Club Brasileiro this Thursday

First Frenchman to win a match in Rio since Gael Monflis reached the quarterfinals is 2018, Muller now takes on Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the second round od the ATP 500. Their first ever matchup will be the second match of the night session at Court Guga Kuerten.

“I'm really sorry for the tournament and for the fans that I defeated João, but I really wanted to win that match. I think it’s going to be another tough battle, Tomas is a great fighter and I’m sure it’s going to be a great fight for sure”, said Muller, who won his first ATP Tour trophy this year in Hong Kong.

Opening the activities at Court Guga Kuerten this Thursday at 4:30pm local time is the matchup between Jaume Munar, from Spain, and Portuguese Jaime Faria.

Later, not before 7pm, Francisco Cerundolo faces Italian Luciano Darderi. It will be their third matchup and a rematch of last week’s first round in Buenos Aires. In Argentina Cerundolo prevailed by 6/4 and 6/4. Last year they faced each other in Houston and Darderi got the win.
